I think a lot about POEM. Paid, owned and earned media.

I even published my own version – SCOPE, which I believe better represents the current landscape in Digital Media.

This deck tells the story and shares some of the models Digital Strategists need to be aware of. Over the last few years I’ve been sharing more and more on models that help explain the digital media landscape.

Models come first in my book. With the right models, you can execute more effectively. Models for me are like machines. They explain the inputs, outputs and interactions. Models are like having a manual. They help you make smarter choices and execute more consistently.

Media is complex. There are many choices. Not all media are born equal. If you don’t think about the bigger picture, you are not prioritizing and deciding how/why to invest.

It’s too easy to keep going with what you have done before, meanwhile the landscape and the effectiveness of tools /¬†platforms are changing. You cannot ignore the ever shifting landscape.

We have so much choice, but so little time.
