Let Social Curation into Your World : Los Angeles Dec 12 2012 #SocialCurationSummit
Creation, Curation and Consumption
You are a curator. You perhaps just don’t know it yet, or think of using that term.
We often use the term for museums. Curators put together an experience by selecting items and assembling a show or an event.
Curation is filtering, organizing, theming. It’s about telling compelling stories.
Curation is a more common life skill than we realize.
You sure are a content consumer. It’s impossible to miss the fire hydrant of content pouring on us each day.
We have to filter to survive. We share to survive. People are social. People are survivors. In moments of stress or crisis we come together.
I guess, in some ways, the excess of content spawned the birth of social curation and social collaboration.
We really do share as a coping mechanism. Sharing is curation.
Reading this post was a choice. Letting an idea into your life. That’s curation.
Posting on Facebook. That’s curation. That’s social.
Checking in on 4SQ. That’s curation. That’s filtering and sharing. We all 4SQ selectively, well hopefully.
Attending an event, opening yourself to serendipity. That’s curation.
Being vulnerable. Connecting with a speaker or a fellow attendee. That’s curation.
Each new connection, each new input has the power to change your perspective on life, that’s curation.
One new idea, one new friend, one new thought.
Any one of these things can make attending a conference worthwhile.
I view attending conference as a life-changing event.
You get from a conference what you put it.
I like to work it. That’s me. I attend to find out why. What takeaway or connection will change me and potentially my life?
How about you?
How do you curate your life?
